  Our new Parish Patron

The Church of the Assumption, Redruth, was dedicated 15 years before the dogma of the Assumption of our Lady was proclaimed by the Church in 1950. There also seems to be a timeliness about our new parish patron name: 'Our Lady of All Nations':

A letter by Cardinal Luis Aponte-Martineza provides an update on the petition to define the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Spiritual Mother of All Humanity, under the threefold aspects of Coredemptrix, Mediatrix of All Graces, and Advocate - a final Marian Dogma. Bishops from the Philippines, India, Nigeria, Slovenia as well as Latin America have just added their support:

"We all perceive a worldwide urgency for the greatest possible intercession of our heavenly Mother for the unprecedented crises of faith, family, society, and peace, which marks the present human condition. We see the papal definition of Holy Mary's Spiritual Motherhood of all peoples as an extraordinary remedy to these global crises which today threaten a great part of humanity. The more we freely acknowledge Mary’s intercessory power, the more she is able to exercise this power for the peoples of the world entrusted to her care at Calvary."     Puerto Rico 8th December 2009

  Carn Brea

The 90 ft Basset Memorial Cross rises high above the centre of the parish on the top of Carn Brea (730 feet above sea level). The hill was once an iron age fort, but apparently later became a shrine to St Michael the Archangel.
